MONDAY  7th JUNE
Cheeky is coping very well with the chicks, but how does Tom get into the nest box?
Nothing seems to be happening with the eggs,we are keeping our distance.
TUESDAY  8th JUNE
Still keeping our distance. The chicks have grown slightly. They are just entwined around each other.
The grey downy feathers have gone from their backs.
There is a stark difference between the two, ones quite small with a creamy coloured beak. The other is twice the size of the small one and has a yellow beak.
Still no sign of any further chicks.
Tom is feeding Cheeky and we managed to get it on camera.(not a very good photo)

This is as clear as I can get it.

WEDNESDAY 9th JUNE
Still no sign of hatching from the other eggs.
Cleaned the nest box out. I can always smell milk,  when I am near  the young chicks.
The chicks have practically lost their fluff!
There is eye develpment. They both look like they have black eyes.

ITS OVER TO YOU !!!

Thursday 10th June
Definate eye shape.
They have nearly doubled in size.
Because they have know control over their necks,it makes them look like dancing snakes. They are really wrapped around each other.
Still know joy with the other eggs,we are considering removing them.
The biggest chick has got very big feet, they are enormous!

Friday 11th June
Total loss of downy featheres, a little left on wings. This is odd compared to a normal Kakariki pair they don't seem to loose their downy feathers at this stage. Also Kakrikis are very good parents, the male especially so it will be interesting to see if Tom makes the grade.
I was getting a little worried that Tom was not doing his job right, neither Paul or I had seen him entering the nest box,he would sit outside the box all puffed up like a proud father and peer in but not actually go in.We are going to have to watch, this is in it self difficult to watch without being seen!

Saturday 12th June
Tried measuring the little dears, they like to wriggle about.Their heads look like small mice.
The smallest measures appox'3"
The biggest measures approx'4"
Neither Tom or Cheeky are bothered about us handling the chicks but to be on the safe side we were in and out as quickly as we could.
Still nothing from the other eggs.

This may sound strange but one day they have downy feathers then the next none and then its back again.
The chicks up to the final picture are about 9 days old.
I say approx' because we were not taking any notice of Cheeky sitting on eggs we do not know exactly the day they hatched.
